The end of electrical exclusion

The challenge of ending the electrical exclusion in Brazil began in November 2003. The initial goal of Light for All, to bring access to electricity to more than 10 million Brazilians, was achieved in 2009. But the IBGE 2010 Census pointed out the existence of about 716,000 families still excluded, especially in the North and Northeast regions and in areas of extreme poverty.

Then a new phase of the program began, for the period 2011/2014, focusing on citizens served by the Brazil without Poverty and the Citizen Territories programs.

New challenges

One of the current challenges of Light for All is bringing electricity to residents in isolated and difficult access locations, especially in the Amazon, where the conventional electricity network is not available.

To meet this demand, several alternative generation projects are being developed, using clean and renewable sources such as solar, thermal, biofuel and decentralized generation systems from mini and micro hydropower plants.
